Accenture Among "Worst Corporate Name Changes"
Enron takes top honor

NEW YORK, Dec. 28, 2001 The folks at yourDictionary.com have composed the "Top Ten Word Lists of 2001." Accenture takes the stage with one of the "worst corporate name changes" of the year.

Accenture came in at number two in the "Worst Corporate Name Changes" of 2001 simply because it relinquished its former name, Andersen Consulting -- "one of the great branded names of the 20th century," says yourDictionary.com.

Enron beat out Accenture for the number one spot in this category. But, you say, Enron didn't change its corporate name! Well, according to yourDictionary.com, "sometimes a company doesn’t have to change its name to completely redefine itself in the mind of the public." You can say that again.

On a more somber note, "Ground Zero" is at the top of the list of "Top Ten Words." When perhaps last year we used these two words to describe starting over from "ground zero," this year it refers to the "holy ground at the epicenter of the World Trade Center."

According to Paul J.J. Payack, president and CEO of yourDictionary.com, the Internet is the reason language is evolving at an ever faster rate. "Our lists attempt to capture that evolution and innovations in word choice and usage," he said.

The complete "Top Ten Word Lists" can be found at yourDictionary.com.
